High up in the branches where the silver leaves sway, a squirrel named Barnaby started his day, wearing a hat made of velvet and blue, searching for acorns all covered in dew. He hopped over mushrooms that glowed in the light and greeted the owl who was saying goodnight, then zoomed past a rabbit who wiggled his nose while balancing toast on the tips of his toes. With a leap and a giggle and one final spin, he stored his big prize in a hollow of tin, then curled in his nest as the stars started gleaming, safe in the forest and soundly while dreaming, knowing tomorrow would bring a new way to chatter and scramble and join in the play.
