Although black holes cannot be directly observed, their influence on surrounding matter provides valuable clues about their properties. Research into black holes continues to challenge our understanding of physics and may eventually help scientists unify the theories of gravity and quantum mechanics. Their extreme nature makes them one of the most exciting areas of modern astronomy and a symbol of how much remains unknown about the universe.
