Regarding the unemployment rate, it stood at roughly 17% in 1988. This figure fell slightly to around 13% in 1990, before rising again to approximately 15% in 1992. It then dropped sharply to just 4% in 2000 and remained stable for the following six years. However, the unemployment rate increased slightly to nearly 6% in 2008.
Meanwhile, the number of emigrants was about 60,000 in 1988. This figure decreased to around 55,000 in 1990 and then fell sharply to just over 32,000 in 1992. The number continued to decrease gradually, reaching about 27,000 in 2004. However, it then rose significantly to approximately 50,000 in 2008.
