Based on observations on 10fastfingers and other sources I think the average speed for 12-year-olds is somewhere around 20-30 WPM for the English normal mode. At this age many are beginners and haven't learned touch typing, so there's lots of potential to improve with more practice. If 79 WPM is your highest score, your average is lower, but in any case you are going to rank quite high in your age group. At the same time there are people your age that types much faster, so you have something to reach for. :)

Any other 12 yr olds that can type as fast as me?

As you already know, your speed is very good on a general level, and even more so for your age. You are probably in the 99th percentile of all registered users on this site, and will obviously have an even better rank in your age group.

With that said and to answer your question; yes there are people your age typing at your current speed and above. The fastest I've seen in the English normal mode is 191 WPM for a 12 year old. Remember that this is exceptionally fast and a speed that most people can only dream of, let alone accomplish at that age. Judging by your advanced tests that are really good, I would say that it's just a matter of time before you reach 150+ WPM in the English normal mode, which is very high no matter how old you are.

Very fast indeed. And accurate too.

Yes! 95 WPM is good! My sister is 11 and she can type 120 words per minute! The average is around 30 for an 11 year old, so you should be proud!

I was doing 15 WPM when I was 12, but I hit 130 WPM now (I'm 20). I think in a few years you will hit at least 150 WPM. GL :D

Typing 148 wpm

Just joined the site, honestly not sure if this is a discussion board.. but then again there's only one topic so I figured why not.

Anyway, I'm typing 148 words a minute and I was just wondering if you guys think that's pretty damn high up there? I was doing some research and noticed that the worlds fastest typer on a regular keyboard holds a record for 217 WPM.

Anyway, is 148 wpm abnormal?

Thanks guys, by the way I'm James. If you ever need any help with website development/design, I love working with phpBB.

Hi James and welcome here,

Is 148 WPM abnormal? Haha, no, that's really good! :)
So it's far from being bad, but it's not "pretty damn high".

You type between 2 and 3 words per second (WPS), which is great, especially if you started recently. Of course, there are typists who are faster (3 WPS or more) but they are very few compared to the vast majority of people who are able to go up to around 1 to 2 WPS with little or a lot of trainng. The average record in a language is in the 150 WPM.

0,5 to 1,5 WPS = 30 to 90 WPM = bad to average (most people)
2 WPS = 120 WPM = good
2,5 WPS = 150 WPM = very good (you)
3 WPS = 180 WPM = excellent
3,5 WPS = 210 WPM = the best known
