Where to look while typing?

Post by Techieey » Fri Aug 19, 2016 6:33 am

Hi, this is my user id: http://10fastfingers.com/user/863816/
I have average wpm of 56 and 50 in normal and advanced typing test respectively, but when I type by seeing from a newspaper, I struggle to achieve more than 38 (I don't know mistakes, as calculating it is troublesome).

What is your approach, when you type the text from a newspaper, where do you see? or where do you see most of the time?
One benefit of learning typing is that you don't have to look at keyboard, but my trouble is that when I type something wrong, I get intuition that I typed wrong word, and I have to see computer screen to correct it, and then a lot of time is wasted in finding "Which line was I reading in the newspaper".
Looking at two places is difficult.
Also, answer this: do you see word by word, or see 2, 3 words at once?
Thanks.
PS: I've a typing exam (35wpm with max of 8% errors) after 2 days, any tips.

You can get better practice by doing typing exercises online. As for how many words to read at once before typing, it can be anywhere from one to several words, depending on what makes you comfortable.
