The People's Republic of Bangladesh is a South Asian nation located in the vast Ganges-Brahmaputra delta. It shares land borders with India on the west, north, and east, Myanmar on the southeast, and the Bay of Bengal to the south. Covering about 147,570 square kilometers, most of the country consists of fertile alluvial plains. It has a subtropical monsoon climate, with hot, humid summers and heavy rainfall.
Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated countries in the world, with approximately 172 million people. The vast majority (about 98%) are ethnic Bengalis, and the official language is Bengali (Bangla). English is also widely understood, especially in business and education. Islam is the state religion, practiced by about 88% of the population, with Hindus making up the largest minority.
