Long ago, before man roamed the earth, the sky was held up by three giant gum trees. The branches of the trees made a ceiling for the earth that kept the land cool and moist, protecting it from the hot Australian sun. On top of the branches lived great monsters that stomped around all day. One day, one of the monsters noticed a small hole in the floor of the branches. He leaned down to peak through the hole. Below he saw the cool lakes rich vegetation of the animal world. The other monsters wanted to see, too. So they all got down on the ground and poked holes in the branches. Perhaps the holes wakened the branches, or perhaps the monsters just lost their balance with the dizziness of looking down for so long. Either Way, the monsters fell through the holes and landed in the lakes below. Many years passed and the earth began to scorch from having no cover. The lakes dried up and most signs of life faded away under the hot sun. Now only the bones of the monsters remain. The Aborigines call them Kadimakara (Kadee-ma-kara). We call them dinosaurs!
