Someone remarked in a lighter way that journalists, unlike other professionals, need no training for their vocation. While this may be a good joke, nothing could be farther from the truth. Journalism particularly today is at once an art and a science; art in the sense that one has to have a flair and gift for it apart from the patience and application required to master it through constant practice; science for the reason that the field demands a deep study of innumerable areas of knowledge, a constant attempt to keep abreast of information and events as also the capacity to analyse situations critically and report accurately.
