National tourism should have a major thrust in the development of an integrated society in India, in development of understanding bet-ween various religious groups and communities in the country. Getting to know each other better, getting to understand each other better, is really what will build an understanding amongst own people.
It will project the image of the country as it exists and not a small image of the state that your are living in today, and from the spacific State's interest the more tourists that you can attract from other States, the more income you will get from tourism. So, there is a very definite advantage that you can get from this, apart from the advantage that the country as a whole will derive.
The challenges that we face are enormous. A large country like India, with numerous historic resorts and religious places offers tre-mendous scope for different types of tourism. Whether it is game parks, whether is adventure. Small countries in Europe handle hundreds of times the number of tourists that we handle. keeping this in mind, we must put every effort for improving the conditions which will promote tourism.
Lastly, I should just like to give you a quotation from Panditji. He had said on tourism that "we must welcome these friendly visitors from abroad not ony for economic reasons, for tourism brings foreign exchange, but even more so because this leads ot greater understanding and mutual appreciation.
