On Monday in the early morning Mr. and Mrs. Hall woke up and went down into the cellar to do something regarding beer. She forgot some ingredients needed and Mrs. Hall sent her husband back to bring that stuff from their room. Mr. Hall noticed that the stranger's room was half-open. When he was returning with the bottle, he found the doors were not bolted, perhaps simply latched. This event made him believe in Mr. Henfrey's opinion about the stranger. He remembered that the doors were closed by Mrs. Hall overnight. The bottle still in his hand, he went upstairs and entered into the stranger's room. His bedroom was empty and all the garments- the bandages, hat, gloves etc. were there lying on his bed. It took sometime to Mr. Hall in all this investigation, meanwhile Mrs. Hall started shouting at him for the delay. He turned and hurried down to her. He said, 'Jenny', Mr. Henfrey was right for what he opined about our guest. He was not in his room and the door was open. Mrs. Hall was surprised to know this. She decided to see the empty room When they came up the cellar they heard the front door open and shut. Mrs. Hall ran on the upstairs. Someone sneezed. Mr. Hall was behind her wife. She thought Mr. Hall was sneezing. She entered into her guest's room. There was none in the room. She heard the sniffing sound. She thought, perhaps, it was Mr. Hall, but he was may feet behind. Mrs. Hall put her hands on the beddings and clothes put on the bed. They all were cold. In a moment, some extraordinary things happened. The bed-clothes gathered and turned into a heap and jump over one side. It seemed that someone had collected and threw them. The stranger's hat flew and dashed at Mrs. Hall's face. And then one by one the sponge chair, coat, trousers all were flying here and there. Then came up a laughter sound. The chair leg moved towards her. Mr. and Mrs. hall left the room in panic. And they left the room, the door slammed violently and were locked. Mrs. Hall almost fainted. Mr. Hall and Millie somehow brought her downstairs. Mrs. Hall cried-the spirit. She claimed, she knew the spirit. "Lock him out". said Mrs. Hall. She had seen chairs and tables dancing. She did not want him come in again. She was talking about the stranger's goggling eyes and bandaged head and his unreligious attitude. She was of the view that he had bottles more than a normal man needed to have. In her view it was her guest who had put the spirits in her furniture. She was cursing the stranger for spoiling her mother's furniture and turning them all against her which she used to sit in when she was a little girl. Millie was sent to call Mr. Sandy Wadgers came to know from Millie that Hall's furniture were behaving strangely. Mr. Wadgers visited the inn and Hall couple requested him to lead the way to the stranger's room. But Mr. Wadgers was not in a hurry. He wanted to discuss the issue first. Mr. Huxter also joined them but they could not reach at a decision. Mr. Wadgers first wanted to know the facts. While they were busy in deciding what to do, the doors of the room upstairs opened, and to their surprise, they saw the stranger's muffled figure descending down the stairs. He had large blue glasses on his eyes that kept staring all the time. He walked across the passage staring and then stopped. He said, 'look there!' They all saw the sarsaparilla bottle near the door. He reentered his room and slammed the door. The people there were stunned. They did not speak a single word, till the sound of slamming of the door was lost in the air. Mr. Wadgers said that he would go there into his room and ask him to explain all what happened today. At last, Mr. Hall agreed to Mr. Wadgers went upstairs and knocked at the stranger's door. The doors opened, the stranger said- "Go to the devil"! He asked to shut the door. The brief interview of Mr. Wadgers was over.
