National Press Day is celebrated on November 16 to commemorate the establishment of the Press Council of India.
Formed in 1966, the Press Council keeps a check on the quality of reportage provided by the Indian press. It also ensures that journalistic objectivity is not compromised due to "influence or threats of any extraneous factors."
The World Diabetes Day (WDD) was observed globally on 14 November. The theme for 2017 WDD is 'Women and diabetes - Our right to a healthy future'.
Currently, there are over 199 million women living with diabetes and this total is projected to increase to 313 million by 2040. Diabetes is the ninth leading cause of death in women globally, causing 2.1 million deaths each year.
