Since humans are visually driven creatures, the impact of imagery only increases with the help of animation. Animation is like eye catchy moving objects that helps in getting attention and differentiate from other competitors. Today more designers are considering animation as a useful element to enhance user experience of audiences. From a delight tool, it has become the most important tools to bridge successful interaction among apps end users. Good User Interface animations have a meaningful purpose. But one has to make sure to incorporate at the right time as well as the right place. Functional animation is a delicate animation which has very clear and logical purposes that reduce cognitive load, prevent change blindness plus establish better recall in spatial relationships. Animation brings user interfaces to life. The prime focus of Functional Animation is on UI that needs to be intuitive, responsive and must use human centered design approach. A well tested functional animation has the potential to fulfill multiple purposes. Good interaction design provides feedback. Feedback makes you feel like you’re interacting with real elements on the screen. User interface elements such as buttons and controls should appear tangible, even though they are behind a layer of glass. Visual and motion cues can bridge this gap by acknowledging input immediately and animating in ways that look and feel like direct manipulation. Users want to know their current context in a system via appropriate visual feedback. For example, animated loading bars shows how fast a process goes and sets an expectation for how fast the action will be processed. This serves as a real time notification of a system status and enables the user to understand what is going on quickly. First time users often need help to understand how to use an app interface. Especially if interface contain unfamiliar or unique interaction such as gesture. Without help, users may be confused on how to interact with an app. You should provide a set of visual hints that provides insights about what is about to happen and engage users to take further steps. Functional animation smoothly transports users between navigational contexts and explains changes on a screen by creating visual connections between transition states. But one must understand that Dozens of apps have same exact features and accomplish the same tasks. They might all have a good user experience but only few establish emotional engagement with users. Pay attention to animations that can convey an emotion and can make the experience feel crafted. Developing and testing your animation is the best way to convey how you intend to use animation in your design. Using interactive prototypes, you will get a clear picture as to what works and where the flaws in your app are hiding.
