The problem of unemployment is the greatest problem facing our country. Though fifty years have passed since our country became independent, the problem of unemployment has remained unsolved throughout. It has, in fact, become even more serious to-day than before. Today, the number of unemployed young persons is much greater than it was twenty years ago.
No doubt, the problem of unemployment exists even in the developed countries of the world. But the case of unemployment in those countries is the direct outcome of their over development. It has been caused the rapid advancement of science. As science has replaced human workers by machines and computers, it has thrown a large number of working person out of work. These govts, pay unemployment allowance to all unemployed persons until they are provided with some kind of work to do. No such provision has been made by the government for our youths who are unemployed. They cannot get any employment inspite of their best efforts.
The government of our country should try to get at the root of the cause of unemployment in the country. Unemploy, in this country as resulted from under development. Industry in our country is not sufficiently developed to employ a large number of unemployed persons in productive work.
So the government should launch a campaign to open a large number of large scale industries in public sector. it should also provide financial help to all small scale industries in private sector. This is the only way to give work to the large army of unemployed youths of our country.
One of the chief causes of unemployment in India is the galloping, population growth growth of country. The population of our country increases every year by more than one crore. In 1947, the population of India was about 36 crores, while today it is more than 100 crores. All efforts of government to root out unemployment will go waste unless the population boom is checked by effective efforts.
Another cause of rising unemployment in our country is its defective education system. Our educational institutions and universities produce mere clerks out of the vast yearly product of graduates and post graduates. In this way, our education system becomes the main cause of unemployment in our country. Hence, our whole education system needs complete overhauling. Every students should be trained in some vocational profession along with academic education in every school and college. The young persons of our country will not go hunting for petty jobs if they can do some useful technical work. The government should help the young educated persons to start their own small scale industries by giving them free financial aid through nationalised banks.
The government of our country should work on warfooting to solve the problem of unemployment if it wants to save the country from the impending disaster caused by general revolt of all unemployed youths.
Thee is a provision in our seventh five-year plan to give employment to all our educated youths through Self employment scheme.' Under this scheme loans will be given to educated unemployed youths to start their our business or industry. Hence all efforts should be made to solve the problem of unemployment.
