When given the choice between knowing when we are going to die or plain old ignorance of death, there are people who would opt for the latter. This is something I can't understand. The only drawback of knowing the exact time of your demise is the looming fear of death - granted it's a large and rational fear - which usually happens anyway, unless you're involved in a horrific accident. But there are plusses for knowing your tete-a-tete with Death: You'll be able to say your goodbyes to friends and family, help prepare and discuss funeral arrangements, you'd have an impetus to tick off any items on your bucket list, you could even get a loan and take friends and family on one last swansong of a holiday, and there'd be no fear of death in the years or months leading up to the big day - paradoxically, you would be temporarily immortal. Through knowing that we're going to die we can begin to truly live.
