Betty had always dreamed of owning a car. Driving along in the autumn when the foliage was turning brown and orange seemed like paradise to her. Every winter she could travel through quiet country roads covered with a blanket of spotless snow and see green pines whose needles were topped with puffy balls of white. During the summer it would no longer be necessary to depend on anyone to drive her to the seashore. She would simply step into her buggy and travel anywhere she pleased.
Finally, after she had saved for many months, her dream came true. Betty bought a convertible. Green and white it was her pride and joy. She sat behind the steering wheel, turned the motor on and headed for the open highway. Colorful scenes of yellow, and crimson flowers and pleasant green meadows whizzed by the like and unending movie. Ah, yes, the world was hers.
And then one day, Betty attempted to start the car. There was an explosive noise in the motor, and vehicle bucked like a wild bronco as the young girl drove down the highway. At once she took her car toe he nearest service station. Some part of the motor needed cleaning. Seven dollars and fifty cents. Well, she thought all things mechanical will occasionally give trouble.
And so again she traveled along, content and happy; all was well. But then winter arrived, and the car would not start. Betty called a mechanic and was told the car needed to be winterized. Another seven dollars. Oh, well, she said again, these things will happen.
A week later, she had her first fiat. Betty reported it to her mechanic and was advised to buy two new tires. The front ones were badly worn. Naturally, she wanted goof tires, and they cost her another fifty dollars. She was beginning to think her dream had become a nightmare. Betty had no more trouble that winter, Spring came again, and she decided to take her family riding through the county. As the convertible climbed up a steep rise, it bucked and stalled.
