Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has urged the cricketing fraternity to take a step back and give some space to the tainted Australian trio of Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft, who landed in Sydney on Thursday.
Tendulkar said the players are regretting and hurting for what they have done but it's time that everybody takes a step back and leaves them alone.
"They are regretting and hurting and will have to live with the consequences of their act. Spare a thought for their families as they have much to endure along with the players. Time for all of us to take a step back and give them some space," Tendulkar tweeted.
The Master Blaster had earlier tweeted in support of the decision taken by Cricket Australia to ban Smith and Warner for a year while Bancroft got banished for 9 months.
"Cricket has been known as a gentleman's game. It's a game that I believe should be played in the purest form. Whatever has happened is unfortunate but the right decision has been taken to uphold the integrity of the game. Winning is important but the way you win is more important," Tendulkar tweeted on Wednesday.
Tendulkar wasn't the only Indian to post messages on social media after Smith's emotional press conference on Thursday where he broke down and apologised to the Australian public and cricket fans in general.
The Hitman however, added that the video of Smith being escorted by security official at Johannesburg airport that went viral reverberated with him. Rohit said the Australian cricketers involved are great players and feels the episode should not "define them."
"The video of Steve Smith being escorted at the airport and his most recent press conference resonated with me. The spirit of the game is of utmost importance there's no denying that. They made a mistake and they accepted it. It would be unfair of me to sit here and question the board's decision but they are great players and I don't think this should define them," Sharma tweeted.
