External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday hit out at Congress President Rahul Gandhi for questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s understanding on Hinduism. Taking a dig at the Congress president, Swaraj said that she did not know that Rahul Gandhi’s knowledge had increased so much that now even the BJP members would have to understand the meaning of being Hindu.
The External Affairs Minister also called the Congress President a confused person who does not know his religion and caste. She said: “Rahul Gandhi said that the Prime Minister doesn’t know the meaning of being a Hindu. He (Gandhi) said that because he and Congress are confused about his religion and caste.”
Swaraj further said that for years, the Congress party presented Gandhi as a secular leader but near polls when they realised that Hindus are in majority, they created this image of being janeudhari Brahmin. The remarks came hours after Rahul Gandhi questioned the understanding of Prime Minister Modi on Hinduism.
Earlier in the day, Gandhi in a session with the business community in Rajasthan had said: “What is the essence of Hinduism? What does the Gita say? That knowledge is with everybody, knowledge is all around. Prime Minister says he is a Hindu but he doesn’t understand the foundation of Hinduism. What kind of a Hindu he is?”

UDAIPUR: Congress President Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday and asked what kind of a Hindu he (Modi) is that he does not understand the foundations of Hinduism.
"It is fascinating for me that what is the essence of Hinduism. You please study Hinduism. What does Gita say? It says that knowledge is with everybody. Knowledge is all around you. Our Prime Minister says that I am a Hindu but he does not understand the foundation of Hinduism." Gandhi alleged that Modi thought he was the repository of all wisdom and because of it he took decisions like demonetisation without consulting anybody.
Navjot Singh Sidhu, already under criticism for his visit to Pakistan for the launch of the Kartarpur corridor project earlier this week, clarified that he didn't go there on the instructions of his party boss Rahul Gandhi.
"Get your facts right before you distort them, Rahul Gandhi Ji never asked me to go to Pakistan. The whole world knows I went on Prime Minister Imran Khan's personal invite.
On Friday, the cricketer-turned-politician and Punjab minister was asked about Chief Minister Amarinder Singh's disapproval of his Pakistan trip. "My captain is Rahul Gandhi, he has sent me everywhere," Mr Sidhu had replied, his reference to Amarinder Singh, popularly called "Captain", not lost on anyone. "Which captain are you talking about? Captain Amarinder Singh ji, he is an Army Captain. My captain is Rahul Gandhi saab... Captain saab's captain is Rahul Gandhi, my captain is Rahul Gandhi," he said.
