Once a lion who was the king of the jungle, thought of choosing an animal who could act as his minister and look after his kingdom. The lion called a meeting. All the animals and birds came to the meeting. The tiger, the elephant, the fox, the deer, the eagle, the duck and the frog were also present there. The lion sat on a mound. He said I have called this meeting because I want to choose a minister who can look after my kingdom and help me in my administration. Whoever wishes to become my minister, can tell his qualities. The lion said the tiger stood up and said, “I am very strong , I can look after your kingdom well. All the animals are afraid of me. The lion thought if I make the tiger my minister, he himself would like to become the king by hatching a conspiracy against me, as he is as strong as I am . So he didn’t choose the tiger his minister. Next the elephant said, I am very big and strong. If you make me your minister I can manage your kingdom well. The lion was a bit scared to see the huge body of elephant, so he didn’t like to make the elephant his minister. Now the deer said, I am active and smart. I can run very fast . I will be your minister. The eagle also said O king I can fly in the sky. I can watch your kingdom from the sky. Let me be your minister. Then the duck spoke, I can swim. Your kingdom has rivers and ponds. I can bring your fine fish from there. O king said the frog I can live on land as well as in water. Choose me as your minister. The fox was the last to speak O king I am not big or storng. I can’t kill animals. I kill animals. I can’t fly or swim. But I am the cleverest of all the animals. I will be your minister. The lion thought that cleverness of the fox would make him the best minister, so he sad The fox will be my minister.
