Hardware advances in computing have allowed programmers to create infinitely useful software, and explain why computers are omnipresent. Today's science fiction computer applications include electronic libraries, the cashless society, automated intelligent highways, and genuinely ubiquitous computing - a pervasiveness which precludes the need to carry computers because they will be everywhere. Clearly, advances in technology now affect almost every aspect of our society.
