Science has affected mankind in two ways. The direct effect is by producing products that have transformed the existence of human beings. Science helped in creating scientific inventions like the various means of transport and communication. Besides these, it has relieved pain, made medical advances and enabled food preservation. These have freed man from physical exertion which was earlier required just to stay alive. Thus, due to science, slavery is no longer required.
However, technology has made possible destructive weapons which, if in the wrong hands, can bring the end of mankind. The power of destructive weapons, when combined with the media of communication, has created a dangerous situation. If oppressive and uncontrollable dictators possess such weapons, they will threaten mankind's very existence. This requires a world government with both the powers of governance and dispensing justice to control such destructive tendencies by creating a suitable society with suitable conventions. The second effect is indirect, which is through education. The harmony of nature's laws was not understood earlier so that people were superstitious. But with education in mathematics and science, people understood nature's laws better. Starting with the foundation of mathematics in ancient successive generations have built on this storehouse of knowledge, giving confidence that mankind can manage its future.
