Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder that is caused by mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator gene (I know, what a mouthful, you can also call it CFTR). This makes the CFTR protein to not work properly causing an excess of mucus in their internal organs. Although there is no cure for this disease, there are treatments and drugs that can increase the lifespan of CF patients.
