The ratio of volume of nucleus upon cytoplasm is called nucleocytoplasmic ratio. When it increases, cell goes into division. Generation time is the total time taken by parent cell to divide into daughter cells. Kemplasm theory was given by Hertwig. Cell cycle was given by Howard and Pelc. The events that occur in cell cycle are replication of DNA, nuclear division( karyokinesis), cytoplasmic division. In cell cycle, M phase is the shortest phase but in interphase G2 is the shortest phase. Interphase is the longest phase of cell cycle.
Interphase is known as resting phase/ metabolic phase/ growth phase/ preparative phase/invisible phase but it metabolically or physiologically most active phase. Transcription occurs in G1 phase of interphase.
G1 phase is also called post mitotic phase. Ribosome and all types of RNA is sysnthesized. Synthesis of non- histone protein is done. Enzymes like DNA polymerase, RNA polymerase is synthesized.
