The writer of the article discusses why they believe that humans can't maintain their presence on Venus. They give three problems to support their opinion. On the other hand, the lecturer disagrees with the author of the article and gives a single solution that in his opinion can solve the problem. The first problem that can face humans on Venus according to the writer is the very high atmospheric pressure which can crush any spacecraft within hours. In contrast, the lecturer says if we made a floating station (50 kilometers above the surface) of Venus, the pressure will be much lower at that height. Thus, the spacecraft will be able to survive. The second problem according to the author of the article is the absence of water on Venus. Thus, if we want to maintain a space station on Venus we have to supply it with water from the earth which is impractical. However, the lecturer refutes this claim by highlighting the fact that we can create water from the other substances that are present in Venus's atmosphere such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and sulfuric acid. Third, the very little sunlight that reaches Venus's surface. According to the writing passage, only 40% of the sunlight that reaches Venus penetrates to the surface which makes it hard to create electricity using the sunlight. On the contrary, the lecturer says that the floating station we mentioned in the first point is a solution to this problem also. How? because at 50 Km height the station will be above the clouds of the planet which means there will be more sunlight.
