It was just one of these days. The young paladin was already up at six in the morning like any other mornings. She had properly washed herself in the bath of the castle and soon went to see her mentor Gwyneth. The older Paladin was still asleep, and Maya didn't want to wake her up, so she grabbed a training sword from the armory and moved down into the courtyard of the castle. It was still pretty dark and only a few run-down torches spent a bit of dim light, also there was a darned cold. But nothing of this should have kept her from her duties. Training with her weapons was important - Fionel was a war-torn land, and the marauding hordes of orcs, goblins and other foul creatures were advancing every day. Every woman and man had to do their part in driving back the forces of darkness to protect the weak, innocent and those in need after all.
And so she started the morning with a bit of stretching, running around in the courtyard of Sivak castle. Duke Alfonsius had agreed to let Maya and the member of her party use the castle as their temporary base, and the merry band of adventurers enjoyed the many creature comforts there for a while now, all-aware that it was only a matter of time until they had to go back to the front lines and fight for the sake of their country.
After a bit of warm-up exercise the young paladin-in-training took a sip of cool, freezing water. She coughed a little, then wiped some sweat away from her forehead. Finally she got into the proper stance to start her training. Maya raised her wooden shield, then started to slash through the air with her wooden training blade. She advanced, used feints, then retreated backwards, fought off imaginary attackers from the left and the right. Finally she took a deep breath and wanted to stop when she was hit in the back by cold water hosing down on her. "Hey!" She turned around, just to spot Liliane. The mage of their party was a tall, blonde High Elf, who just had conjured some water to tease the young paladin ....
