Continuous high-profile engagements with world leaders by top Indian diplomats has become as routine for the last few years, especially in the post-pandemic world, even as a new global order shedding the archaic tags seeks India as a key player in the larger picture. The Group of 20 Foreign Ministers conclave in Indonesia gave a glimpse of the critical role India will have to play in the future as External Affairs Minister Mr. Jaishankar held a series of bilaterals with his counterparts on developing greater understanding and openness on several issues of mutual interests. The continuous engagements sought by world leaders with Mr. Modi, Mr. Jaishankar and other officials reaffirm the changed outlook towards India as a critical component in new global situation. The diplomatic offensive launched by India has its roots in the calibrated and thoughtful position taken by New Delhi under every ruling dispensation in the last 70 years. Always a responsible democracy, India is seen as a propagator of goodness for the world in all these years. Under Mr. Modi, the diplomatic policies have developed an extra edge with adaptation of an assertive position. Last month's public interactions by Mr. Jaishankar had manifestation of the assertiveness as he told the United States to see the world from clear lenses and reminded European nations that their problem cannot be the problems of the rest of the world too. The strength in these statements and acknowledgement of their gist by the world is the real gain for Indian diplomacy and foreign policy over the last few years.
