Why is it that the things we think will make us happy are the very cause of our distress? We think that we'll be happy if we had a certain person in our lives, or if we achieved that certain thing. Everyday we constantly think about how we are putting so much effort and we're not even close to getting what we want. And sometimes we admit that we're not paying a fraction of what is really needed, we're not working hard enough. We're not as ambitious as we thought we were. And then we feel weak, we feel lost and as if we will crumble in the face of truth that we'll never have the things we value the most. The realization will either make you lose hope and quit(which is less likely) or you will get back to work for some time until you lose motivation again. It's way too difficult, way way more difficult than you imagined. You realize this when you've already invested a great deal of your time into something. But now that you've come so far, you look behind and it feels like it's too late to quit. You look forward, and you feel like you don't have enough strength. It's because our destinies seem illusive and our destination so distant, it seems out of reach. And at that moment, we question if we really want that thing, or if we don't want it that much. The only reason we'll never be satisfied is because WE decided ourselves that we need to have something or be something to feel satisfied. This doesn't mean that we should stop growing, but that we aren't so attached to the end result. That we don't NEED the end result to feel happy or satisfied. We can be happy without it, while working towards bettering ourselves because now we're detached from it. We don't need an end goal to improve, we only need to do better than we did yesterday. That should satisfy you. If it doesn't, there's a problem with the way you think. You don't need to have an ambition. You need to love what you're doing. And all you have to do is more than you've done before. It's about building character, about being more patient, more consistent, more focused, and relaxed rather than stressful. I get it that there is an outcome that you really want but wanting things is easy and you can always want more than what you want right now. In this world, no matter how much you have, it's never enough. You can always have more. You can always be better. There's no such thing as an end. Well, if you have set a goal for yourself for some other cause, like to get something done, it would still be beneficial if you enjoy the process but if you are postponing your happiness and satisfaction to a certain day in the future, why even do that thing? Why not just do something that's fun? What's the point of an ambition that only makes you miserable? - by me
