Degree of Static Indeterminacy: The number of equations required over and above the equations of static equilibrium for the analysis of structure is called the degree of static indeterminacy/degree of redundancy of the structure. The total degree of static indeterminacy is the sum of external indeterminacy and internal indeterminacy. External Indeterminacy: It is related to support reactions of the structures. If the reaction components are more than the available static equilibrium equations for the given condition, then the system is said to be externally indeterminate. Internal Indeterminacy: It is related with the member of the structure. Degree of kinematic Indeterminacy(displacement is included): A structure is said to be kinematically indeterminate if the displacement components of its joints cannot be determined by compatibility equations alone. For these structures, additional equations based on equilibrium conditions must be formulated to obtain the number of equations necessary for determining all the unknown displacement components. The number of equilibrium conditions needed to find the displacement components of all joints of the structure are know as degree of kinematic indeterminacy/degree of freedom of the structure. The number of equilibrium conditions needed to find the displacement components of all joints of the structures are k/a the 'degree of kinematic inderminacy of degree of freedom' of the sturcture.
