Today sexual exploitation of small children is so rampant that the government had to recently make changes in the POCSO too making the law more stringent and including death sentence too for offence of rape on girls below 12 years. Even unnatural sexual offences against minor boys have been reported. These offences send shivers down my spine and it is very essential that you teach the students about the good and bad touch and make the innocent children aware of the sexual offences. At least the children must be aware of what intention the perpetrators carry so that they oppose and protect themselves with all their might. Children can thus be illuminated by their teachers about dos and don’ts. In this way, they too with their stern and prompt reaction will daunt the wrongdoers up to some extent. Sir these problems are few in number but must be seriously dealt with. To starts with, all the supporting staff, drivers etc. must be hired through some recognized agency and their police verification must be done again by the school authority too. These outside staff must in no way have access to the students, their classrooms and washrooms and proper security check-up of the staff and their vehicles and belongings be done by top class security equipment and trained security personnel. Apart from this, CCTV camera must be installed in all the buses and they must be monitored by school staff while the buses are on round. The problem of road hazards, speed limit and rash drawing can also be tackled very effectively by just small steps. This is half done by the installation of CCTV and GPS. These solutions are easy and inexpensive. However it is always better to be safe than sorry no matter how expensive they are. CBSE guidelines too need police verification of all staff, security audit, hiring of only trained supporting staff and the setting of a grievance redresses committee under POSCO Act 2012. These are the minimum requirements and any violation or laps with regard to safety measure will invite stern actions and even the cancellation of the affiliation of the school.
