Though a late riser, India has clearly understood the need to emerge as an alternative and trustworthy market for critical industries like semiconductors. The chain of reaction at the highest level has sent a positive message to the domestic industry about the benefits of becoming a part of the next industrial revolution. The announcement by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi to provide fifty per cent financial help to technology firms for setting up semiconductor manufacturing facilities in the country deserves wholehearted appreciation from the nation. It is indeed a wise move towards the next industrial revolution in a sector that is critical for the entire world for its future journey. Semiconductors form the most critical component in technology that drives mobiles to automobiles. It has become a basic need for all things that are technologically driven in every sector. Making it in India is a timely step with a great potential of catapulting the economy towards a higher perch. India has woken up to the dream that can be easily turned into a golden reality provided all stakeholders are on the same page. In this direction, the Prime Minister’s push for establishing an ecosystem for the semiconductor industry in the country is the biggest assurance for top tech players in the world. The PM has already brought a couple of top companies on board for establishing their manufacturing plants in India. Now, with the financial incentives announced for the domestic players, the process of tech and economic cohesion can take a formal shape. India must not let this opportunity go waste, for, if it succeeds in becoming a semiconductor manufacturing hub for the world then it can easily have the backing of a roaring economy to boost its rising international stature. Moreover, it can also provide the world a viable alternative to China which has been cornering the largest pie in the semiconductor industry. With a tech giant like Taiwan in the fold, India must make the most of the golden chance.
