A university professor went to visit a famous Zen master to learn about Zen. As the Zen master served tea, he poured the professor's cup full, and then kept pouring. The tea overflowed onto the table and then onto the floor.
The professor watched in shock and exclaimed, "The cup is full! No more will go in!"
The Zen master stopped pouring and smiled. "Like this cup," he said, "you are full of your own opinions and speculations. How can I teach you Zen unless you first empty your cup?"
