In my opinion, while Kelly makes a valid point about the risks of shallow interactions, I believe social media is a net positive for maintaining community. I agree with Alex that these platforms are essential for long-distance relationships, but I would take it a step further by suggesting that they also facilitate "real-life" meetups.
For instance, many people use local community groups on social media to organize neighborhood clean-ups or hobby clubs. Without these digital hubs, finding like-minded individuals in a large city would be significantly more difficult. Therefore, social media doesn't necessarily replace physical interaction; rather, it acts as a bridge that brings people together in ways that weren't possible twenty years ago. As long as users are mindful of their screen time, the benefits of digital connectivity far outweigh the drawbacks Kelly mentioned.
