Today, I looked at an old photograph of myself as a child. I was smiling so brightly, eyes full of wonder, believing that I could become anything I wanted. I looked at that innocent kid, and then I looked at my reflection in the mirror. I didn't recognize the exhausted person staring back at me. The harsh reality of corporate life, unpaid bills, and broken promises has slowly suffocated that hopeful child. I had to let him go. I had to bury my dreams just to survive in this ruthless world. The rain is pouring outside now, and I am going to walk into it. I need the cold water to numb the guilt the heavy guilt of becoming everything that little kid never wanted to be.
