Tuan prayed that his school would be closed the next day because he had not finished his homework.
Tuan said, “Dear God, or any god up there, my teacher has abused me by giving me too much homework! Please make the school close tomorrow. Even if it takes a natural disaster, that’s okay… I just can’t go to school!”
Tuan’s father heard him, knocked on his bedroom door, and told him to go to sleep.
The next morning, Tuan woke up and looked out the window. He couldn’t see anything. He ran downstairs and turned on the TV to watch the weather forecast. The meteorologist on television said that Hanoi had become so humid that thick fog had formed in the air. He also said that this unusual climate was probably caused by pollution in Hanoi. He warned, “When you pollute this planet, you will have to suffer its rage.” In addition, a huge storm was about to hit Hanoi. Tuan heard loud thunder outside. He smiled and thought this might be the answer to his prayer, but then his father came downstairs and said, “Hurry up, Tuan. School is still open.” Tuan still couldn’t believe it, even after the two of them got on the motorbike and headed to school.
While they were riding, they were covered by the shadow of dark clouds in the sky. Then heavy rain poured down, turning the streets into a stream. Tuan’s father sped through the wet ground and mud. Suddenly, they both felt the ground begin to shake beneath them. An earthquake was happening! Buildings collapsed around them, and the roads cracked open. From the cracks in the earth, hot lava flowed out like a volcano. Tuan’s father skillfully rode around the lava and the falling debris from both sides. Tuan shouted, “Stop, Dad! We’re going to die!” But his father remained determined and kept going.
Soon, the weather became mild again, and it seemed that everything was over. However, a huge tornado suddenly appeared and swept both Tuan and his father, along with their motorbike, into the air. They were carried hundreds of meters above the ground before the tornado threw them and the motorbike down right in front of Tuan’s school gate. His teacher was standing outside, waving at them. Tuan lowered his head and walked into school.
