Humankind has always been endlessly fascinated with life in outer space. Earth’s inhabitants have been attempting to detect the presence of extraterrestrial beings by transmitting signals to the universe. While this attempt ostensibly seems high-risk, I would argue that communicating successfully with another life form in space is such a breakthrough and could be critical in solving numerous aching issues on Earth.
Striving to search for other life forms entails several inherent risks. Even if humans succeeded in getting across their messages to aliens, the two civilizations would not necessarily be in harmony. In fact, the more technologically advanced race is highly likely to dominate and colonize the less developed to fight for new abundant natural resources and thus, wars and cultural assimilation are inevitable. This is analogous to Columbus’s quest for America, which took place at the expense of indigenous people and their culture. Therefore, seeking aliens’ replies can potentially pose an imminent threat to Earth’s inhabitants and vice versa.
Despite the aforementioned dangers, mankind can reap two substantial benefits from sending signals into space to find another life form. First of all, the detection of extraterrestrial life could be a historic breakthrough in the scientific domain. This is because scientists and the public have been typically mystified for years about whether aliens exist or not. Hence, the reception of radio waves or any form of responses from alien entities can satisfy the intense curiosity of ordinary people and experts alike as well as provide reasonable answers to perplexing phenomena occurring previously.
Another positive side of this search is the chance to find solutions to numerous pressing issues on Earth. Since Earth is becoming increasingly uninhabitable as a result of humans activities, finding another livable place is of fundamental importance. In reality, overpopulation and mass production have led to the rapid depletion of natural resources and environmental pollution. Thus, discovering another life form is key to finding a new inhabitable place.
In conclusion, contacting another life form is inherently dangerous, but the upsides to this are far more significant given the deterioration of living conditions on Earth.
