One thing that people understand yet always seem to forget, is that you never truly know what goes on behind closed doors. Things aren't as they seem. And the manner in which couples often present their lives in public, can be a stark contrast to the reality when no one is watching. The abusers public image will be often be an outright contradiction to the true self. While the abused will happily play along as they can escape into fantasy and pretend that it's all real for a few brief moments.
