The Awash River originates from the central high lands of west Shewa Zone in oromia Region it flows through east ShewaZone it then goes to the afar region finally it flows down to the danakil depression. It sinks the sands in this area. This river is used for irrigation. It is used to grow banana,sugar cane etc. It is also used for drinking.The Koka dam is constructed from this river.This dam was constructed during the Haile slassie regime.It generates about 4 thousand mega wat electric power.
