The halo effect is something we experience almost every day, especially when it comes to looks. It happens when we see someone as attractive and automatically assume that they have other positive qualities too. For example, if someone has a nice face, good style, or looks confident, we might assume they are friendly, intelligent, or successful before even talking to them. In contrast, someone who looks tired, poorly dressed, or less confident may sometimes be judged more negatively, even if we know nothing about them. This can happen at school, at work, or when meeting someone for the first time. Social media can make the halo effect even stronger because people often present themselves in their best photos. However, appearance does not actually tell us what someone is like as a person. Being aware of the halo effect can help us avoid judging people too quickly based only on their appearance.
