The opposition BJP staged a walkout from the MP assembly on Tuesday alleging the state governments failure in fulfilling the promises of loan waiver and bonus to the farmers.
BJP legislators stormed out of the house during Zero Hour after their demand seeking an adjournment motion on the farmer issue was not accepted.
The Congress government has cheated farmers in the name of loan waiver. The government which promised to waive of Rs 2 lakh loans in ten days has not fulfilled the promise even after seven months of coming to power. BJP wants to raise the issue but is not allowed to move, hence the party decided to stage a walk out,” said former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who had raised the issue of farmers’ distress.
Leader of opposition Gopal Bhargava said Congress government was involved in mass transfers, but the government has no time for farmers. All promises made to the farm community have fallen flat on the face. BJP will fight for the farmers in and outside the house, he said. Farmers want to buy fertilizer and seeds during the monsoon but the cooperative banks have refused to help them with loans. The farmers are in distress and 12 peasants have committed suicide too because their Rs 2 lakh loan has not been waived off, said Bhargava.
When BJP MLAs Bahadur Singh Chouhan and Yashpal Singh Sisodia joined the chorus defending Bhargava's demand and seeking adjournment motion to raise the issue, Speaker NP Prajapati refused to agree saying, "I have received the information. I will see that how a discussion could be planned on the issue. I will also personally talk to the members on this matter.”
After Speaker Prajapati took up the routine business and asked Congress MLA Sukhlal Kushwah to proceed with the Zero Hour information, the opposition members raised their voice together creating ruckus in the house.
The Speaker tried to calm down the members and assured them to take up the matter at an appropriate time but the dissatisfied BJP members continued to press for their demand. Later, they staged a walkout to protest against the refusal.
After the protest, LoP Bhargava told reporters outside the house that Congress government was apathetic towards the plight of the farmers.
