Whole life I typed qwerty, heard dovrak was faster so i tried that out for year. Had dovrak completely mastered but still could not reach the typing speeds I could with with Qwerty.
Switching to Dovrak took about 3 months and many hours a day practicing before I could get above 60 to 70 wpm, after a year I was able to hit 90+ wpm.
Switching back to Qwerty was challenging, but not nearly as hard as learning Dovrak. My progress is documented on this site through the typing test. I started at 10 to 20 wpm for this first day or two. By day 4 or 5 I was able to get to 60+ wpm, then after a week was able to get 100+ wpm. After a week I am still not able to type the advanced section as many of the advanced words are still programmed in my mind with the Dovrak keyboard layout.
