It was Hung’s big day. He had been preparing and practising for months. His orchestra was ready to perform on an episode of Vietnam’s Got Talent. Hung had come up with a new song for his orchestra to play for this event. He was very nervous because their performance would be broadcast on live television to an international audience. He knew his orchestra must entertain the audience. If any of the judges were to judge his performance poorly, it could have permanently damaged his reputation and his future.
Hung played many instruments but for this performance he would play the electronic keyboard. His orchestra took their seats and Hung walked toward the microphone to address the crowd. One characteristic of Hung is that he is not a very good public speaker. So he was extremely nervous and sweating and shaking. But first he introduced the rhythm section, then the string section, and then finally himself. The crowd applauded and Hung was thrilled that he did well with his introduction. But as Hung walked toward his seat, he tripped over someone’s foot. He then knocked over a massive sculpture on stage and the sculpture then knocked over a candle. The candle fell onto the curtains on the stage and the curtains immediately caught on fire.
The crowd erupted and the audience all jumped out of their seats. Everyone panicked as they raced to evacuate the building. During the frenzy, people were not able to get out of the building and escape the fire. In the tragedy, a total of 13 people were lost to the fire.
Later, it is revealed that the Vietnam’s Got Talent show did not follow proper fire safety precautions and they were blamed for the deaths in the fire. Many commercial interests would not associate with the show. Soon all television channels stopped advertising the show on their stations. Vietnam’s Got Talent was forced to cancel their show. Many people in Vietnam blamed Hung for the ending of their beloved show. For the rest of Hung’s life, he was vilified and hated in the country of Vietnam.
