The Central African Republic is a landlocked country in the heart of Africa bordered by Chad, Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of the Congo, and Cameroon. Its capital, Bangui, lies along the Ubangi River and serves as the country's largest city and economic center. The region contains tropical forests, grasslands, and extensive river systems that support diverse wildlife and agriculture. France established colonial control over the territory in the late nineteenth century, and the Central African Republic gained independence in 1960. The country possesses significant natural resources, including diamonds, gold, timber, and uranium, although political instability and armed conflict have limited economic development. Agriculture remains an important source of employment, particularly the production of cassava, cotton, coffee, and livestock. Despite major challenges, the country has considerable natural wealth and occupies an important geographic position connecting several regions of the African continent.
