In India Independence Day is celebrated on fifteenth August every year. The country was under the rule of the British for nearlytwo hundred years eventually liberating itself from their clutches and become an independent nation. August fifteenth has sincebecome a day to celebrate independence. It is also celebrated as a tribute to the freedom fighters who laid down their lives to give usa better place to live. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm and courage by every citizen of India because Independence Day meansa lot to them and is very important. Since fifteenth August is a national holiday. Independence Day celebrations are held a daybefore in most schools and colleges in the country. Independence Day celebrations in schools and colleges across the country includeflag hoisting and speeches and debates and quiz competitions dances and poetry recitations and various other cultural activities.Students are thrilled about these activities and participate in them wholeheartedly. Students of the primary wing are also seendressed as freedom fighters. These activities take students closer to their roots and fill them with a sense of patriotism that isotherwise missing in this generation. This day is also celebrated in the offices a day before Independence Day. In offices employeesare usually asked to wear saffron or white or green attire to keep up with the Independence Day theme. People are seen wearingethnic clothes in the mentioned colors and the whole atmosphere is illuminated. Flag hoisting is done in many offices across thecountry. Special lunches are organized to strengthen the bond between employees. On occasion people also come forward to givespeeches and some offices organize cultural events to add emotion. Society welfare associations of various residential areas takeinitiative to celebrate Independence Day. People gather in a nearby park during the early morning hours on Independence Day tocelebrate the day in its true sense. They dress according to the theme of Independence Day and participate in various activitiesorganized during the program. Flag hoisting is done at the beginning of the festival. After the flag hoisting people stand in a state ofmeditation in honour of the ringing national anthem. Patriotic songs are played in full volume during these celebrations and peopleare seen immersed in the spirit of patriotism. During these events dance and poetry recitation competitions are organized. Fancydress competitions are also held in which children are seen as freedom fighters such as Jawaharlal Nehru Sarojini Naidu andBhagat Singh etc. These competitions are mostly followed by lunch. People sit together and enjoy food during these events this is agood time to bond with a neighbor. In many parts of our country kite flying is done as a ritual on Independence Day. Colorful kitesflying freely in the sky are considered a symbol of independence. People go on their terrace or go to the nearby ground to enjoy theactivity of kite flying. They invite their friends and relatives to enjoy this activity. Kite flying competitions are also held at variousplaces and people participate with full enthusiasm. Independence Day is also celebrated to remember the great souls of our countrywho stood up for their rights and fought regardless of their lives. This day is celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout thecountry.

Doctor Kalam traveled from floor to sky. Thisextraordinary talent was born into a poor Tamil Muslim family in Rameswaram Tamil Nadu province in India. At birthhardly anyone has thought that this little boy will take India as a nation builder later. His father Jainal Abidin was afisherman by profession and was a pious man. His mother Ashiyamma was a usual housewife and a kind and pious woman.The parents named their youngest son Abul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam. Lack of life was linked to his early life. Hisfather used to hire boats to fishermen. The family used to maintain the income from it. Despite the calamity the parents gavegood rites to Kalam. His father had a great influence on his life. Even though he was not educated but his customs were veryuseful for Kalam. At the age of five he started his elementary education from Panchayat Primary School in Rameswaram. Itwas here that he got a noble lesson from his teacher Iyadrai Solomon. To achieve success and favorable results in life onemust fully understand and establish dominance over these three powers rather than intense desire faith and more. LittleKalam assimilated this lesson and started the journey ahead. His teachers were very impressed with the talent he introducedduring elementary education. During the early education itself when there was a lack of meaning he worked to distributenewspapers to continue his studies and to support the income. After his early education Kalam completed high school from aschool in Ramanathapuram. He had a keen interest in science from the beginning. He joined Saint Joseph CollegeTiruchirapalli and received his BSc degree from there. On the advice of his teachers he moved to Madras Institute ofTechnology Chennai for postgraduate education. It was there that he chose aeronautical engineering to shape his dreams.Kalam started his golden journey in science as a budding young scientist after completing his training from the MadrasInstitute of Technology. Then he started his first job at the Civil Aviation Technical Center in Bangalore. Where he showedhis unique talent and designed a supersonic anti aircraft. A turning point in his life came when he had an opportunity to jointhe Indian Space Research Organization. His work was also highly appreciated here. He was deeply involved with manysatellite launch projects. He played a central role in setting the Rohini satellite and with this India became a member of theInternational Space Club. During his lifetime he was awarded many awards and honors for his achievements and publicservice. He was awarded the titles of Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India. While he wasawarded the Bharat Ratna the highest civilian honor of the country in the same year he was awarded with the Indira GandhiAward for National Integration.
