In French, the preposition which is used with the pronoun "must" be placed immediately before it. In English, it is possible to place the preposition at the end of the clause. In constructions where the compound relative is to appear immediately after the preposition de, the use of dont is normally preferred. This makes for a shorter, more elegant sentence.
Interrogative prounouns are used to formulate direct or indirect questions about the things or beings they relate to.
With the exception of dont, they are identical with the relative pronouns presented in the preceeding section. They are the equivalents of the English interrogatives who, whom, what, where, etc. They can, with the exception of que, be used with a preposition which will be placed immediately before them.
