A visit to a historical monument is always an exciting experience. It is a fascinating adventure. I had one such experience during the last summer vacations, when I visited Delhi.
With my family, I reached Delhi by train. After some rest, we undertook a visit to Delhi. Delhi is a historical city. It has been called by different names in different periods of time. On one hand there are Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Jantar Mantar, Qutub Minar, India Gate which narrate the glorious past of India while Rashtrapati Bhawan, Lotus Temple, Parliament, to name a few, are the wonders of modern times.
We visited the Jama Masjid first. Jama Masjid is the largest mosque in India. It is located in Old Delhi. It is located just opposite to the famous Lal Quila or the Red Fort. Shah Jehan built it in 17th century in Delhi. It is also known as Masjid-e-Jahan Numa.
The mosque was the result of the efforts of over 5,000 workers, over a period of seven years. Use of white marble, wide stair cases and arched gateways are the hallmark of this popular mosque. The mosque has a vast paved rectangular courtyard, which is nearly 75 m by 66 m. Its courtyard has the capacity to hold nearly 25,000 worshipers. The central courtyard is accessible from the East.
By noon, we had completed the tour of Jama Masjid and returned back. I enjoyed my trip to the Jama Masjid very much. It was really an unforgettable experience which apart from being intellectually rewarding gave us a glimpse of our country's proud history.
Subhas Chandra Bose' was born on 23rd January 1897 in Cuttack, Orissa, India. His mother's name was Prabhavati Devi. His father Janakinath Bose was an advocate.
In the course of struggle for freedom Subhas Chandra Bose formed 'Azad Hind Fauz' and led the 'Indian National Army'. He advocated a revolutionary and violent way to protest as opposed to non-violent approach by Mahatma Gandhi. He separated from Indian National Congress (INC) and founded his own party 'All India Forward Block'.
Subhas Chandra Bose was one of the most prominent leaders of the Indian Independence Movement. He spread the feeling of national integration, sacrifice and communal harmony among the masses.
Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti is celebrated on 23rd January every year across the country. His Jayanti is celebrated in a grand way among the party members of Forward Block. All the district administration and the local civic body also observe Subhash Chandra Bose Jayanti. Many N.G.O.s organizes Blood Donation Camps. On this day the schools organize various activities as exhibition, quiz and cultural programs. His birthday is also celebrated as Desh Prem Diwas.
