I started appreciating the vast scope of the word 'Proactive' by its usages in several situations. Measuring one's success in terms of one’s own growth is being proactive whereas measuring it in terms of other's failures is being reactive; saving for a rainy day is being proactive while blaming fate or other persons if one is in a financial crisis is being reactive; taking steps to maintain health is being proactive whereas allowing diseases to creep in one's body and getting them treated only through medicines is being reactive. A proactive approach helps one to develop ownership of one's ideas, optimise one's strengths and take control of one's life. With this approach one learns to do more of what one is good at. It helps one to win without ensuring that someone else loses. A quote that brings forth the proactive spirit is, "I never lose; either I win or I learn". A very apt prayer that can help us to imbibe a proactive spirit is, "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference." Thus this new way of understanding the word-meaning using the experience instead of dictionary not only helped me to learn the meaning of 'being proactive', but also helped me in learning being proactive.
