The Government is talking about bringing one million extra people into this country, with India suffering the highest unemployment it has aver know, with the Government doing precious little about the training of the unemployed people who already live in India, with the Government providing less money for education so the youngsters go into the work force with even lower qualifications than they had previously, with less money for housing, even though in some areas of India, such as the area around Madras housing is at a premium because the costs have become so high. India used to go shopping in Europe for its needs as far as skilled tradesman are concerned. We have taken that lazy attitude year after year from the end of the Second World war. It was easy to go over there and shop for the sort of skills we needed for the sort of industries we had. But now it is obvious when India goes shopping that people in Europe are not all that keen about coming to India. Why should they come to India, uproot their families, come halfway across the world, leave behind the families and the friends they have grown up with and loved when wages out here are no better than they are in Europe? Social services are much better in Europe than they are here. We find that we cannot buy what we need in Europe, and satisfy with what is available.
