Napoleon Bonaparte was a French military and political leader: he was Emperor of the French from 1804 to 1814. He dominated Europe and won most of the Napoleonic Wars. He is one of the greatest commanders in history. The Battle of Austerlitz, also known as the Battle of the Three Emperors, was one of the important war. It is recognized as the greatest victory by Napoleon. In 1815, he was leading France in the Battle of Waterloo against two of the armies of the Seventh Coalition. The French army was defeated and it marked the end of the Napoleonic Wars. He then was exiled to the remote island of Saint-Helena, where he died in 1821 at the age of 51. Napoleon's wars estimated to have cost as many as 1.7 million lives.
