I learnt about touch typing on Youtube and finally decided to do it myself. The muscle memory is extremely tough to memorize and I practiced for a month on keybr to finally get it. My typing speed on keybr was 35-40 wpm. Keybr uses fake words and there was no text samples so I came to this website after seeing a lot of videos. Well the very first thing I noticed on 10 Fast Fingers Typing is that my typing speed was now 20 wpm. I was really surprised. Then I understood the reason. This site uses actual and common words which are not arranged to help develop memory but rather just normal words you are expected to type everyday. I really liked that about this site and also it has texts to practice proper paragraphs. Now on 10 Fast Fingers I have two typing speeds: 35 wpm for the typing test and 29 wpm for the practice texts because of all the punctuation. This site has really been an eye opener for me in terms of typing and what to expect. One thing that irks me though is the amount of spam in the text practice area. There are a bunch of classes trying to advertise on here in the title and the text is also not at all common or something you would expect normally. I also don't like the grammatical errors in many texts that are present. However, it is very nice to see articles and other interesting topics where you can type them for practice and have fun reading as well, especially the ones with 200-300 words as that takes me 8-10 minutes so I can judge my speed.
I don't understand how there are people who can go from 30 wpm to 60 wpm in one month because this doesn't seem to be possible for my current self. I have tried going on TypeRacer and NitroType to see if they help but the texts are way too short and they focus more on racing rather than typing actual long texts. Longer texts help practice consistency and accuracy which I think is very important as compared to 1 minute sprints. I find the letters 'm', 'l', 'y' and 'p' to be very difficult to type and I keep on missing those letters. Hopefully the accuracy for those improves soon.
Overall touch typing has been quite interesting for me and has made me feel that I can type faster than I would without this method. My aim is 50 wpm them 100 wpm after which I will be happy. Thanks so much for typing this and I hope your touch typing journey goes great as well. I might write interesting random texts from stories I liked so I hope you will enjoy them. Happy typing!
