A vast land covered with trees  plants and shrubs and known as the home to various species of wild animals. Forests are an essential part of the Earth ecosystem. They help maintain the planet climate, purify the atmosphere, protect watersheds. They are a natural habitat for animals and a major source of wood which is used for the production of many products used in our day to day life. India is one of the top ten forest-rich countries in the world along with Australia, Brazil, China, Canada, Democratic Republic of Congo  Russian Federation, United States of America, Indonesia and Sudan. Along with India, these countries account for about 67% of the total forest area of the world. Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh  Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra are among the states that have the largest forest cover in India.
Ranthambore is located near Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan. It is home to leopards, tigers and crocodiles. It is also known for the Padam Talao Lake which is home to lilies in abundance. This place in North-East India is known for its rich greenery. The Khasi forests receive high amounts of rainfall and remain green every year. Forestry is a major rural industry in India. It is a means of livelihood for a large number of people. India is known to produce a vast array of processed forest products. These include not only products made from wood, but also a substantial amount of non-wood products. Non-wood products include essential oils, medicinal herbs  resins flavors  fragrances and fragrance chemicals, gums, latex, handicrafts, incense sticks and various ingredients.
Deforestation is the process of cutting down trees in large parts of the forest for purposes such as the construction of buildings. Trees are not planted again on this land. Statistics show that almost half of the forests around the world have been destroyed since the development of the Industrial Age. This number is likely to increase in the times to come as industrialists are continuously using forest land for personal gain. A large number of trees are also cut to produce various goods from wood and other components of the tree. Deforestation has a negative impact on the environment. These causes lead to soil erosion, disruption of the water cycle, climate change and loss of biodiversity. Forest is a boon for mankind. India is especially blessed with some beautiful forests which are home to many rare species of birds and animals. The importance of forests should be recognized and the government should take measures to control the issue of deforestation.
