Poet Surdas is one of those unique stars of the Hindi poetry world, who will continue to spread his shine in the public mind through his indelible literature. Poet Surdas, Mahakavi Tulsi and Keshav etc. are equivalent poets. Kavivar Surdas is the main poet of Krishna Bhakti poetry of Hindi literature. Scholars are not unanimous regarding the place of birth and date of birth, but most people believe that you were blind from birth. On the basis of the facts received, Surdas ji was born in 1535 AD in a village called Sihi near Ballabhgarh. Surdas ji was estranged from his family since childhood so that he could not become a burden on them. There was sweetness in Surdas ji's speech. When he used to sing verses describing Krishnas Leela with emotion, then all the villagers also jumped with joy and listened to his singing with mesmerization.
Surdas ji left Sihi and went to Mathura while traveling, but the peace loving Surdas could not stay there for long. After that they started living at Gaughat situated on Mathura-Agra road. When Ballabhacharya, the great guru of the Pushti sect arrived at the ghat, he met Surdas ji. Ballabhacharya was very much impressed by the posts of Surdas. Surdas received initiation from Ballabhacharya ji and it was he who inspired Surdas to sing Krishna-lila for life.
After this Surdas was completely absorbed in devotion to Krishna. New verses were constantly being composed by him in Krishna devotion. It is said that in his long life span of 105 years, he composed more than one lakh verses. However, only a few of these verses are available to readers today. Poetry books composed by you Soorsagar, Soor Saravali and Sahitya Lahiri are very special poetic works of Hindi literary world.
